So bittersweet, sad.

Oh my, PATRIOT passed by House, now up to Senate…

A reaction:

bq. That’s absolutely right. The politicians jump up and down about how the terrorists hate freedom, then turn around and take away freedom in the name of preventing terrorism. It’s very hard to not see the U.S.A. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. act as being utter proof that terrorist tactics work—and work well.

bq. The scary thing is that they’re out there watching our government’s reaction, gloating, and planning their next wave of attacks to see what sort of reactionary fascism they can goad our government into next. Not only did the terrorists win, but our government keeps encouraging them by doing exactly what they want—whittling away the freedoms of the United States through the politics of fear, uncertainty, and doubt, all in the name of combatting terrorism.

bq. PATROIT act tactics have not worked in Britain against the IRA, or in Israel against various terror groups. They won’t work in the United States, either. Unfortunately, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and I fear that the American public does not learn from history. If that is the case, may God help us all.

bq. In any case, congratulations, Mr. President, Mr. Speaker, et al. Never in the history of the world has anyone caved to terrorism so thoroughly and completely as the United States in the wake of 9/11. You should all be ashamed, and more to the point, you should all be impeached.

From Wikipedia: hyperreality

* a sports drink of a flavour that doesn’t exist (”wild ice zest berry”)
* a plastic Christmas tree that looks better than a real Christmas tree ever could
* a magazine photo of a model that has been touched up with a computer
* a well manicured garden (nature as hyperreal)
* the cinema
* Disney World and Las Vegas
* pornography (”sexier than sex itself”)
* MMORPGs, where simulated life is perceived as more engrossing than “real life”

Keyboard With OLED Keys

Here’s a nifty item. Each key has a small display unit that can change as the key function changes.

Sports

So who’s heard of Michelle Wie? 15 yr old Hawaiian teen wanting a spot in the Masters? That’s just awesome. I was watching the golf channel w/ Will the other day and they couldn’t get enough of her. I guess neither could we. haha. It’s like Tiger Woods for golf again, except this time she’s 100% asian and she’s not a he. Err, yeah. I think it’ll be good for the sport. Maybe I’ll meet some local korean hotties out at the driving range who suddenly got an inspiration to play golf. haha.

Lance Armstrong’s doing it again. I think he’s ~5 minutes ahead of his most lethal challengers at the moment. Watching it on OLN the last few nights has been spectacular. Kinda makes me want to take out my old Cannondale and start pedaling again. Then again, maybe not. You know they end up riding around 2000 miles (give or take a few hundred) in 3 weeks? Crazy. Something like 8-9000 Kcal consumed a day.

Have you seen those new fitness gym ads with people wearing t-shirts explaining their problem areas or fitness goals? Stuff like, “still burning off baby fat”, or “just had a child”. I want a shirt that says, “dunk a basketball” or “looking to date fitness instructor”. :p

I need to start working out again. I need a gym membership. :/

Oh, and Ride to Work day is July 20th. Maybe Valentino Rossi will come pick me up w/ a pair of new R1’s. I can’t believe he lost on Sunday. Anybody see the interview on Two Wheel Tuesday? It was pretty good.
